Natural Healing
What is it & where does it fit in?
Natural Healing or Complementary Therapy can be used in addition to, or instead of, conventional medicine. Natural healing is based on a belief in the body’s ability to heal itself. Some of the modalities use an understanding of the working of the body which is not studied by practitioners of conventional medicine, based on Eastern understandings of energy meridians and fields. Usually such treatments are tailored to the individual, and do not use a ‘one size fits all’ approach. This means that they are rarely tested by conventional controlled trials, and therefore are not regarded as ‘evidence-based’.
Natural medicine has developed over centuries through observation and practice. In recent years there has been a recognised increase in the sale of natural products and a marked increase in the amount of people that regularly consult with a natural health practitioner. Globally there is a proliferation in understanding of holistic treatments that has encouraged many people to examine the healing practices of cultures outside of their own and incorporate these into their lifestyle, diet and quest for wellness.
